I reported this via the BBC problem tool. The response was not helpful, however I did a quick scan for missing channels and all the ITV channels appeared. So I now have all the channels available from the Penicuik Transmitter.

I have since did a full rescan. I am no longer asked to select a region, the channels all appear. Presumably the dot problem has been fixed. If I select information on my box it shows they are all from Central Scotland without a dot.

William Sim: I'm pleased to hear that the "dot" has disappeared and you can view all of the channels at once.

I received a very nice email from STV who were responsible for the dot, thanking me for making them aware of the problem. They also said if I have any other technical issues, I should not hesitate in contacting them and they would endeavor to find a solution.

Hi, I get freeview HD from Penicuik okay, but I am inquiring about a lot of the programs you cannot get (like film4). As far as I can see the transmitter for penicuik does not transmit multiplex A, C and D which is required.
You can check here UK digital TV reception predictor and then check against this Freeview Channel Lineup
Are they gonna upgrade in the future?
Thanks.

Ian: I'm afraid it's not very likely. It's expected to roughly double the cost of transmission to broadcast from all relays, which would only increase the overall coverage by 8% of the population. There also aren't that many spare frequencies, although Scotland is better off than elsewhere as you're not that close to other countries! If the broadcasters do extend coverage it's most likely to be at transmitters that cover a large number of households with low power, and that are easy to feed. Penicuik is predicted to cover 9,900 households, joint 50th (of approximately 1000 'Freeview Light' relays not carrying all muxes).
If you provide a full postcode, we can see whether another transmitter is likely to give reliable results; however, I wouldn't hold out a lot of hope, as Penicuik is quite a distance from the edge of the old analogue coverage areas of Craigkelly, Black Hill and Angus (which does have some overspill into Midlothian, around Dalkeith, but not as far south-west as Penicuik).
